Born in Huntington Beach, California, Camaron was primarily raised in Lafayette, California. She also used to spend a lot of time in Oceanside, California, where her grandparents used to run a ranch. It was her grandparents who had helped her develop an appreciation for country music, after which she began to listening to it and performing it regularly.

During her high school and college days, she used to sing in various choral groups including the Contra Costa Children’s Chorus, where she learned how to sing in 14 different languages.

While she was studying at the University of California, Davis, she had formed an all-female collegiate a cappella group named The Spokes. She then learned how to play the guitar while she was studying, for a brief while, in the Netherlands.

She developed further confidence in playing the instrument during a trip to Nepal where she had chosen to live, for several weeks, with a rural mountain community that had limited electricity and basic needs.

Following college, she began to pursue other interests and had even worked in a research lab at Stanford University. It was a college professor there who urged her to re-focus on pursuing a career in music as that was her primary interest, stressing the fact that she would regret not doing so, in the future.
