MTV Changes The Real World After 29 Seasons

17th Annual MTV Movie Awards - Arrivals

You know the story by now – seven strangers, picked to live in a house,  find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real. ‘The Real World” has been a staple of our generation, but the show has taken a ratings dive the past few seasons and producers have decided to make some changes.  The new series will be called ‘The Real World: Ex-plosion’ as if the show needed more drama.

The new show will be set in San Francisco and will feature seven strangers picked to live in a house. Here’s the twist: After one month of their three month stay in the house, they will go on a trip and return to find there exes have moved into the house as well.

This is the first major change for the show in 28 seasons. The thinking behind producers is when they started in 1992 there was always going to be novelty in the diversity, conflict, and story each season could bring. Now the world has, in a sense, caught up with the show and there isn’t much left in terms of story. You can only feature irresponsible hook-ups so much until it gets old. For the casting, co-creator John Murray told Entertainment Weekly that they sought out candidates with interesting ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend stories. For the first season – five of the seven exes have agreed to move into the house.
